Whale Shark Spotting Season In The Seychelles

Keen divers should head to the Seychelles to witness the spectacular Whale Shark season.

The season occurs between September and November each year when the Whale Sharks migrate past the Seychelles archipelago.

One of the best places on the island to spot these creature is in South Mahe where the Four Seasons Resort is based because as head of the dive center Leo Hoevers explains "Whale sharks sense where there is lots of plankton and instinctively head there to feed. We quite often get sightings just a few minutes from the Resort during the peak whale shark season".

The resort is making the most of this incredible time of year by offering the fantastic opportunity to either snorkel or dive with Leo Hoevers who collaborates with a team from the Marine Conservation Society of the Seychelles. The research trips allow guests to enter the water with a marine biologist who will tag whale sharks as part of an ongoing mission to monitor their activities and routes.

This is a very rare opportunity and should not be missed and proceeds from the trips will go to the Marine Conservation Society. For more information visit the Four Seasons Maldives website but be quick as places are very limited.

The Seychelles' 115 islands fall under two distinct groups: the tall granite, Inner Islands and the low-lying coralline cays, atolls and reef islands of the Outer Islands. They represent an archipelago of legendary beauty that extends just south of the equator and lies between 480km and 1,600km from the east coast of Africa. The Seychelles is regarded of one of the most beautiful places in the world.
