Visit our Grayslake Dentist to Prevent Tooth Decay
Grayslake, IL, April 16, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Grayslake dentist, Dr. Amir Seifi, and team are helping to increase their patient’s knowledge of tooth decay. Four Lakes Dental is encouraging patients to keep up with regularly scheduled appointments and visit their dental office at least twice per year to help prevent the chances of developing tooth decay.
Tooth decay affects the inner layer and outer coating of the tooth. It is caused when foods containing carbohydrates or sugar stay on the tooth for long periods of time. Bacteria help to turn them into acids. The acid and saliva come together to form plaque. Eventually, the acid within the plaque forms holes on the tooth called cavities.
It is important to understand that tooth decay can also be prevented by:
- brushing at least twice per day with toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- cleaning in-between your teeth with floss.
- eating balanced meals instead of snacking.
- visiting your dentist at least twice per year for regular cleanings.
You may have tooth decay if you are experiencing a toothache, sensitive teeth, pain when eating or drinking, various shades of staining on the teeth, or holes in your teeth.
Even though you may not be experiencing any symptoms, Dr. Seifi still encourages regular dental check-ups in order to keep your mouth healthy and decay free.
The most common procedure that our dentist may perform is eliminating the decomposed portion of the tooth. For this type of treatment, our dentist will remove the affected portion of the tooth and fill the hole with a safe filling material. In some instances, crowns may be used if the tooth is severely decayed. If the root of the tooth is dead, a root canal may also be needed as treatment.
We encourage patients to visit our dental office at least twice per year. Our team of highly trained and knowledgeable staff works as one, with the mutual goal of helping you obtain and keep a healthy mouth for a lifetime. For more information, please contact our Grayslake dentist.
