The Patent Pending Solar Powered American Flag Pole was invented by Richard Cox of Holbrook, NY, who said, "The Solar Powered American Flag Pole is a sensor activated lighted American flag pole with solar powered operating capabilities. It is similar to a standard flag pole, but what sets it apart is its lighting capabilities. A row of solar panels line the top surface and absorb sunlight. A series of bright, light emitting diodes (LEDs) are underneath on the opposite side of the pole. They are evenly spaced to fully shine on the flag. Within the top of the flag pole are rechargeable batteries. During the day, the battery(s) charges and reaches maximum charge (except on shorter winter days or overcast days). A sensor detects when darkness falls and turns on the LEDs. Another method can rely on a photoresistor. When the photoresistor indicates darkness, instant illumination occurs, likely at the first hint of dusk."
