The Maldives Underwater Hotel

The Maldives Government and the National Ministry of Tourism have given the go ahead for a very futuristic hotel to be built off the coast of the Maldives.

With five legs which go down into the ocean, the Water Discus Hotel is a luxury resort which will have 21 moveable rooms which will be underwater in the heart of the coral reef.

The hotel which will be the largest ever underwater hotel is to be built of the island of Kuredhivaru. Polish company Deep Ocean Technology are the brainchild behind the new plans, designer Pawel Podwojewski said to news channel CNN "Here you will have the chance to explore an underwater world from the comfort of your bedroom"

The hotel will have two large disc shape lounges which will be seven meters above the water, and will feature a luxury restaurant and spa. These lounges are connected to a glass tunnel going down 30 metres below the water, where there will be 21 hotel bedrooms where visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful sea bed. There will also be a rooftop pool as well as helicopter landing pad. Those wishing to get out and explore the views they are enjoying, can head straight for the hotel's airlock compartment, which includes its own decompression chamber, or take a ride in the three passenger submarine.

In case of emergencies, the room will be able to float to the surface, when the water from the tanks under the room is released, the room will rise to the surface like a balloon, which will make things like maintenance much easier. The new hotel must be seen to be believed, but will open up new doors in terms of tourism to the Maldives.
