The Local Thai Community Invites All New Yorkers to the Annual 'Experience Thailand' Cultural Festival on Sept. 8

​The Royal Thai Consulate-General New York announces its annual "Experience Thailand" event will take place this year in Union Square on Sunday, Sept. 8 and will feature some of the East Coast’s best Thai restaurants, cultural performances, live art, cooking demos, and more.

The festival serves as an ongoing symbolic gesture, representing more than 200 years of friendship between the U.S. and Thailand. The local Thai community in New York welcomes everyone to attend and to “Experience Thailand” through amazing food and several experiential activities.

The cultural festival is free and open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In cooperation with the Thai community in New York, the festival will simulate an atmosphere of Thailand in the multicultural city of New York featuring: Popular Thai dishes from some of the best East Coast Thai restaurants

  • Thai spas and wellness services provided by 5th Avenue Thai Spa and Madison Healing Arts

  • Muay Thai demonstrations on the main stage will be by Kru Natalie “Peaceful Warrior” Fuz, coach and owner of Chok Sabai Gym

  • Thai cultural performances and art by the community’s music and dance troops and New York Thai artists

  • 3 Cooking demonstrations from Chef Yim of Somtum Der in the Lower East Side, Chef Boonchert of Nora Thai in Williamsburg, and Chef Bao Bao of Baoburg in Greenpoint 

  • A made-in-Thailand marketplace that is similar to the one you would find in Bangkok featuring Thai food products and custom fragrances

  • Amazing Thailand interactive activities

Besides the cultural promotion, the Experience Thailand festival also serves as a public channel to sincerely thank residents for their friendship and continued support for the Thai community in New York. 

The event is hosted by The Royal Thai Consulate-General New York, and it is also supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Trade Center NY office, Board of Investment (BOI), Bank of Thailand, Bangkok Bank, all of which will be available to provide information and materials for those interested in tourism and business in Thailand.

There are approximately 50,000 Thai living in the 10 states under the jurisdiction of the Royal Thai Consulate in New York and nearly half of the number resides in New York. Many Thai living in New York have worked in the field of Thai food-related business, ranging from Thai groceries, restaurants, importers of Thai food products and beverages to prominent Thai Chefs in New York. Other work areas include art and design, media and entertainment, health care, finance, and New York City public services. This community is an important alliance of the Royal Thai Consulate in promoting public diplomacy program in New York.
