The Housing Authority of St. Mary's County and Humphrey Management Unveil Newly Renovated Multi-Family Apartments for The Spring Valley Community

Newly renovated units include features for improved energy efficiency and accessibility.

The Spring Valley Apartment community in Lexington Park has undergone significant renovations that will improve the apartment homes both aesthetically and in terms of energy efficiency, while making the homes available to residents across the income spectrum.

The substantial upgrades and renovations will be unveiled during a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, September 26, at 11am. The Ceremony will include comments from residents, key partners, and local community leaders.

The Spring Valley community provides a mix of market rate, affordable, and accessible housing options for residents of St. sMary’County, military personnel, and families moving to the county. Spring Valley is a project that was developed through a private-public partnership between BHH, Inc., The Housing Authority of St. Mary’s County and the support of the Board of St. Mary’s County Commissioners. Financing and equity were provided by the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development and Stratford Investors. The community is managed by Humphrey Management.

Some of the interior improvements include:

  • A range of Energy Star certified upgrades to HVAC systems, windows, and appliances;
  • Brand new kitchen counters, cabinets, and faucets; and
  • High-efficiency water heaters, light fixtures, bathroom fixtures and accessories.

  • Upgraded, energy-saving building wrap;
  • Landscaping pavement repairs and the addition of a bike rack and park benches;

Community manager Sheila Mackall comments, “It’s great to be able to provide improved living spaces along with cost and energy savings for our residents. At the same time we can now accommodate residents at any income level, which is truly a win-win for us and our community members.”

“We are constantly aiming to address the housing needs of St. Mary’s County residents in ways that are as inclusive and progressive as possible,” adds Dennis Nicholson of the Housing Authority of St. Mary’s County, “this project is a great exampleprinciplesofbothin action.”
