The biggest Sai Baba temple in North India - Shri Sai Akshardham Temple - is on the verge of completion. Conceived and constructed over a period of 6 years, the main building of the temple - the Sai Baba Wada - is now complete, and will be thrown open to the general public on April 28, 2013.

"The Shri Sai Akshardham Temple is a grand replica of the Shirdi Sai Baba temple," said Ms. Gunjan Aggarwal, President, Shri Sai Kripa Society, while confirming this news. "The Dwarkamai was constructed in September 2009, and Chavadi in December 2010. The completion of the Shri Sai Baba Wada - the main building of this temple - will mark the completion of Shri Sai Baba Akshardham. While Pranaprathistha of the Sai Baba Murti will be done of the 27th April 2013, we have decided on the date of 28th of April 2013 for the inauguration of the Shri Sai Baba Wada. One of the foremost office-bearers of India is expected to inaugurate the Wada."

This temple finds its origin in the dreams of a little girl. It is believed that somewhere in January 2006, Shirdi Sai Baba appeared in the dreams of a young girl from a family of Sai Baba devotees, conveying his desire to have a "Shirdi jaisaa ghar" nearer their home in Greater Noida. The child shared this dream with her family and despite being from a traditional middle-class, they all set out to fulfill it. The project has so far involved a lot of challenges, but the Aggarwal family's determination to accomplish Baba's dream has finally borne fruits. With a built-up area of more than 35,000 Sqft, the Shri Sai Kirpa Society has been organizing various initiatives over the past 3 years. Interestingly, there is an area earmarked for discourses, lectures, seminars, and other such spiritual activities exploring the teachings and ideals of Sai Baba.

"The faith of Sai Baba cuts across all boundaries of religion, caste, creed, race, language, and nationality - bringing the world together as one," said Mr. Jayant Sasane, who had done the Bhoomi Pujan for this Temple in 2008, as Chairman of the Shirdi Sai Baba Trust. "Many devotees from North and East India are unable to visit their beloved Sai Baba as often as they want to, because of the distance involved. Shri Sai Akshardham is the answer to the fervent prayers of such devotees."

The Board of Trustees of the Shri Sai Akshardham is working out an elaborate plan including socially responsible activities like free food for the villagers around the complex (around 5,000 people every month are currently benefitting under this scheme), a charitable dispensary for the poor, a computer lab for children of workers, Free seminars on health awareness, employment generation schemes for the needy, and free English language classes.

With the Pranapratishthan of the Sai Baba murti and the inauguration of the Wada of the massive temple barely a month away, finishing touches are being given to the Shri Sai Akshardham. Considering the outpour of devotees which the 2-day event is going to see, the organisers are in touch with local administration to ensure that the festivities proceed unhindered.
