Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article published on 8 April 2016 on a top dental news website.

Tariq Drabu in Manchester said “The Scottish government has been asked to step in to try and tackle the increase in oral cancer cases throughout Scotland this year. The British Dental Association Scotland has launched a five point plan to confront oral cancer and put preventative measures in place, including children from deprived households throughout the area.”

Tariq Drabu went on to say “A survey has revealed that there is 16.8 oral cancer patients per 100,000 in Scotland compared to the 12.4 per 100,000 in England and 11.9 per 100,000 in Northern Ireland. This is a serious concern and if not handled now it could result in an epidemic in the future.”

Tariq Drabu closed in saying “Early detection can improve survival rate by ninety percent. The five point plan implemented by BDAS includes focusing on inequities, funding shortfalls, improving oral health for the elderly, increasing oral cancer action and effectively improving oral care for all. The statistics in the United Kingdom for oral cancer is a serious concern and rising by the day. There are more than seven thousand six hundred new cases each and every year with almost half of these in the over sixty give age bracket. Oral cancer is more common in deprived areas and ninety one percent of cases are lifestyle related.”
