St John the Baptist Traditional Catholic Church secures building with traditional Catholic architecture in Louisville, KY, continuing to reject the novelties of Vatican 2. Holy Mass is 10am and 5pm on Sundays and holy days. Confession is before Mass.
Online, August 19, 2011 (Newswire.com) - St John the Baptist Traditional Catholic Church is pleased to announce the initiation of its apostolate at its new location on 452 N 26th St in Louisville, KY. The faithful of this community champion the use of the 2000-year-old traditional Latin Mass, otherwise known as the Tridentine Mass. This community is the grateful recipient of the church building formerly used by Grace Lutheran Church. Although built by Lutherans, this building was designed using a traditional Catholic architectural style which includes a high altar, traditional baptismal font, communion rail, choir loft, high, beautiful stained glass windows depicting scenes of Our Lord's life from the Four Gospels , and cathedral-vaulted ceilings, which allow the grandeur of the Tridentine Mass to be shown in all its glory. The group, whose pastor is Father Anthony Leonardo, leaves its simple chapel in Brooks, KY, where the community worshiped for more than seven years before outgrowing its facility there to take up residence in their new home.
St John the Baptist Catholic Church is the only local faith community that rejects both the liturgical and doctrinal changes of Vatican II in their entirety and without exception. Instead, they subscribe to the doctrinal teachings and liturgical practices taught by the Catholic Church for 2000 years without any influence from Modernist sources like Vatican II. While there are three other places where the traditional Latin Mass is offered in the Louisville area, they do not offer an exclusively traditional doctrinal teaching unaffected by the teachings of Vatican II. What differentiates St. John the Baptist Church from these other communities is their total fidelity to the Catholic Church's Tradition where the traditional Latin Mass is offered exclusively in context with unaltered (pre-Vatican II) Catholic teachings. The Tridentine Mass is not "mixed" with the novel ideas of Vatican II. Also, besides the Tridentine Mass, all of the other sacraments and blessings provided at St. John the Baptist come from the traditional pre-Vatican II rituals books. Community member Michael DiSalvo made a statement to Catholics summarizing this important matter: "It is important not to accept the teachings of Vatican II, as they contradict the Catholic Faith. The Catholic religion, by its nature, cannot change because God Who revealed it cannot change. In like manner, we hope to be a permanent influence for good here in Louisville, helping restore the Church to her former glory and to be a salutary societal influence through works of charity".
The community looks forward to its first public Holy Mass at 10:00 AM on Sunday, August 21st. Confessions will be heard prior to Holy Mass at 9:15 AM. For those unable to make the morning Liturgy, a later Mass will be offered at 5:00 PM, with confessions heard at 4:30 PM.
