Second Annual St. Louis For Improv Festival To Benefit The Women's Safe House
The second annual SLIC Festival, featuring actor/comedian Bill Chott will be hosted by Parkway South High School on April 7th, 2012. The charitable, all-day event benefitting The Women's Safe House presents performances by professional improvisors.
Online, March 6, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The second annual St. Louis Improv for Charity (SLIC) Festival, featuring actor/comedian Bill Chott will be hosted by Parkway South High School on April 7th, 2012. The charitable, all-day event will benefit The Women's Safe House and present performances by professional and local high school improv acts, open to the public. The event finale - beginning at 6pm - will include the tournament championship rounds, followed by improv jams. But the schedule starts early, 9am, for the die-had improviser and includes more than ten performances, improv workshops, presentations, and two improv tournaments with brackets filled by high-school teams. Suggested donation to each workshop or performance is at least $1.00 and checks can be made to Parkway South High School.
Organizers anticipate over 70 different performers and workshop attendance of 200+.
"We had a great start last year. We anticipate double the attendance," says Andy Sloey, co-producer of SLIC.
Every year, the event will take place at a different, St. Louis-area high school. SLIC has determined this year's charitable beneficiary to be The Women's Safe House. The event is officially a Purple Partner of The Women's Safe House, and hopes to build awareness for battered women and for the organization which provides shelter from violence. "We selected The Women's Safe House because we want to help mothers," said Ben Swoboda, co-producer of SLIC. "Our goal is to allow improvisers to unite as a community and, help people. Family violence is a serious issue and The Women's Safe House is a truly well-run organization that could benefit from this kind of event. Not only can SLIC Fest lend financial support, but provide some humor medicine as well."
Besides Bill Chott of Saturday Night Live and Wizards of Waverly Place fame, other notable coaches have included Ed Reggi of Paper Slip Theater, Professor Nick Kelly of Lindenwood University, Keven McKernan of The Improv Shop, and an assortment of other notable coaches: Andy Sloey, Marc Pruter, Steven Vance, Mimi Swoboda, Ryan Lee, and Ben Swoboda
The event is to be produced by Ben Swoboda and Andy Sloey of CORE Improv, a local group of improv coaches hired by academic institutions, and Jennifer Forest-James, theater director at Parkway South High School.
