SAS DFW Promotes Strong Leadership

SAS DFW's director of operations discussed the dynamics of leadership within the firm, and shared some prominent leadership qualities.

“Everyone who joins the SAS DFW team is developed into a leader,” said Jon, the company’s director of operations. “Keep in mind that leadership isn’t just about a title. It represents the ability to guide and motivate others, to listen attentively and set strategic goals, and to take risks and know how to fail with grace. Our team members master all this and more.”

Jon described some of his accomplishments as a leader. He opened an office in Tampa, Florida, for instance. He is also expanding into the Oklahoma market, strengthening the company culture, attracting sharp candidates, and even working with the women’s Genesis Shelter. “Our recognition this time of year comes from our growth within our company overall,” he stated. “We’ve increased our expansions more than ever, and that’s due to the dedicated people on our team – there’s just so much opportunity.”

"To be a true leader, you must know how to develop cohesive teams,"

According to Jon, there are some high achievers within SAS DFW who have the potential to become some of the organization’s most effective leaders. Zach and Tamara can both teach and train well, which coincides with the core value of building people. “They are incredibly driven and productive,” he indicated. “Zach and Tamara call to mind one of my favorite sayings that anything lost can be found except for time wasted. They crave the opportunity to grow now and in the future, which is what we offer at SAS DFW.”

Director of SAS DFW Highlights Essential Leadership Qualities

“To be a true leader, you must know how to develop cohesive teams,” Jon continued. “You need to figure out how each member of your team thinks, and how to maximize his or her strengths. Of course, you also have to be aware of how you work – you may be comfortable working in an entirely laid-back environment, but your team may require some structure. Explore the impact you have on others, and change course as needed.”

“Finally, it’s absolutely imperative to give plenty of praise and feedback,” Jon concluded. “Your people need to know how they’re doing, and how they need to improve in order to move upward. Don’t stick with a reactive mind-set, either. It’s certainly important to fix problems, but it’s even more vital to let everyone know what they do well. Recognize their efforts, and proactively let everyone know how much you appreciate them – you can’t go wrong that way.”
