Opening of Registration for 2nd Batch of Programme in Health Care Management Offered by Goa Institute of Management
Online, April 29, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Goa Institute of Management has announced admissions for its full-time residential program in Health Care Management (HCM). The first batch for this specialised PGDM that enrolled in June 2013 included a strong blend of 50 talented students. The batch is currently attending their Summer Internship Programmes (SIP) - this program focuses on building experience across business verticals in the healthcare industry.
Counted among the Top 20 B-schools in the country, GIM's Programme in HCM has been designed in close collaboration with top management from the Healthcare industry. Panel discussions on healthcare management topics with panellists including Heads of large hospitals like Wockhardt, and Manipal Hospitals of Goa, are essential to the course structure.
"The Health Care Sector registered double digit growth in recent years and has proved to be a recession proof sector," says Dr. Adesh Chaturvedi, the co-ordinator for this programme. "Unlike other HCM courses where the focus is on Hospitals, GIM has taken all sectors of Healthcare into account, including Pharmaceutical & Medical Device industries, Public Health, Consulting Firms, UN Agencies and NGOs, Health Insurance, IT verticals and Hospitals. The core of the HCM syllabus is 'Management plus Health Care.'"
The recent Government focus on improving healthcare services is likely to result in the streamlining of health policies and health security. This, in turn, has led to the widespread opinion that HealthCare sector is all set to produce the next million jobs in the country.
"The curriculum of the program is fashioned after Healthcare Management programs offered by Ivy League business schools in the United States," points out Dr. Chaturvedi. "In addition, the HCM program incorporates salient differences that are in the Indian healthcare system. There are some important non-credit, perspective building courses integrated in the Programme for HCM, including courses titled Compliance issues in the Healthcare industry,
Understanding the Consumer, Medical Devices and Technology."
The program focuses on research habits and personality building activities through Book review, Film review, and Business Buzz. Through Ribandar Talks, GIM offers one-on-one interaction with high profile speakers from hospitals and business institutions as an integral part of its curriculum.
"The PGDM Healthcare Management Program is led and supervised by an accomplished and active Steering Committee," reveals Dr. Chaturvedi. "They are names to reckon with. The committee includes the heads of famous Health care Institutions like Abbott Healthcare, Sanofi Aventis, Wockhardt Hospitals, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Johnson & Johnson and Goa Medical College, along with Dr. Sunil Rai, Director, GIM and Dr. Ajit Parulekar, Dean, Health Care Management GIM. Together, they make the foundation of the programme efficient and strong.
A distinct initiative of the HCM program is its "Know Your Healthcare Provider" (KYHP) program. This program is 50% field-based training, which is a considerably larger percentage of Industry experience offered by other institutes. In the KYHP visits, students implement the projects designed by the HCM faculty team in various well-known healthcare setups. The HCM faculty have published over 50 newspaper articles ‒ apart from books and case-studies ‒ hand-in-hand with HCM students. The faculty Professors, along with the students who they have worked with, have presented these papers in various national conferences and seminars.
