Ontario Energy Group Supports Sustainable Water Resources Alongside Plan Canada
Online, April 2, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Ontario Energy Group (OEG) is proud to announce their support of Plan Canada's Gifts of Hope program, a unique set of ethical gifts that give twice: here and abroad, and bring hope and change to the lives of families and entire communities across the world.
OEG has committed itself to supporting the Gifts of Hope Water and Sanitation for Communities gift, raising $4,000 to give communities in the developing world access to clean, reliable water and sanitation facilities, and giving community members the training and skills needed to protect their water supply to ensure it will be there for future generations.
The contribution aims to create and improve sustainable water and sanitation efforts in these communities, which have limited access to clean water and are at high risk for waterborne diseases from contaminated water or insufficient drainage and latrine systems. The initiative primarily supports the well-being of children in these communities by reducing the workload of cleaning and transporting water to remote regions, allowing children to benefit from more time with their family, and to pursue an education.
Outside of Canada, there are still billions of world citizens without access to clean, safe water which is an essential human right, and critical to the growth and sustainability of any society. According to UNESCO's study on world resources, approximately 783 million people worldwide lack clean water for drinking, cleaning, and bathing; and 2.5 billion lack access to basic sewage and sanitation.
OEG takes great pride and commitment in contributing to Plan Canada's international development efforts, and are excited to continue to support sustainable solutions like water and sanitation projects in developing communities through the Gifts of Hope program.
