Musculoskeletal ultrasound is an imaging modality that can be used to evaluate nerve, tendon, muscle, ligament, and joint disorders and to guide therapeutic procedures. Use of this diagnostic tool is rapidly becoming the standard of care for visualizing the musculoskeletal anatomy and evaluating and managing joint tissue disorders. Hands-On Diagnostics, a New York-based national franchise company, helps Physical Therapists establish diagnostic technologies within their practices.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Sonography is just one of the advanced testing technologies that Hands-On Diagnostics teaches physical therapists.  Others include electroneuromyography, evoked potential studies, and videonystamography.   Nathan Shields and Will Humphreys, physical therapists and owners of Rise Physical Therapy and Diagnostics, are Hands-On Diagnostics franchisees based out of Arizona and Alaska.  They recently communicated with the Arizona Board of Physical Therapy seeking a formal determination in regards to Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging.

The purpose of Hands-On Diagnostics is to help create a truly Autonomous Physical Therapy practice by advancing the Physical Therapist as the provider of choice for Electrophysiological, Neuro-musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging, and Vestibular Testing technologies,

Charles D. Brown, Executive Director of the Arizona Board of Physical Therapy, released the following statement: "Ultrasound has been used by Physical Therapists in Arizona for a number of years. The Board has never taken issue with a physical therapist using ultrasound for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes. However, as with any treatment, a physical therapist needs to be able to demonstrate their ability to perform a  service  safely, effectively and efficiently."

After the release of the letter by the Arizona Board, Nathan Shields noted: "The recognition of physical therapists as providers of choice for musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging is a major step for physical therapists in helping their patients even more effectively to achieve better results."  Nathan Shields, PT and Will Humphreys, PT have been certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound by Hands-On Diagnostics, and they practice this technology regularly with their patients.

"The purpose of Hands-On Diagnostics is to help create a truly Autonomous Physical Therapy practice by advancing the Physical Therapist as the provider of choice for Electrophysiological, Neuro-musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging, and Vestibular Testing technologies," says Dr. Dimitrios Kostopoulos co-founder of the company.  He then adds: " Our purpose for our colleagues who get involved in our franchise is to help them offer valuable diagnostic services to their community, help thousands of people and generate significant additional revenues for their businesses".
