Loving Apartments Invites You To Visit Berlin Zoo

Loving Apartments, accommodation specialist, recommends joining the three million annual visitors at the Berlin Zoo during a city break in Berlin.

Berlin is home to the most visited zoo in Europe, the Berlin Zoo. Loving Apartments has chosen the Berlin Zoo as one of the main attractions in Berlin and urges guests staying in Berlin apartments to pay the zoo a visit during their stay.

The Berlin Zoo is located in the heart of Berlin in Tiergarten Park. The zoo currently thrives, but it has been through an interesting history of ups and downs. The Berlin Zoo formed when Prussian King Frederick William IV donated the animals in his menagerie. After three years of construction the Berlin Zoo opened in 1844 outside the skirts of the city. Because it had been inconvenient to visit, the zoo's popularity started off fairly low. Success increased when a full-time zoo director was hired in 1869. Until World War II, the Berlin Zoo continued to gain support.

The Second World War had dramatic effects for the zoo, as it did with many sites in Berlin. Only 91 of more than 1,000 animals survived the bombings of the war. Further damage destroyed many of the zoo's buildings and exhibit structures.

After the war, the Berlin Zoo slowly began to reconstruct. There was a tremendous amount of support from the Berlin Senate, Berlin Class Lottery, and the German people. Through generous donations the zoo was able to be restored. New structures were built in more modern styles. The area has developed into what we see today, one of the most successful zoos in Europe.

Loving Apartments loves the Berlin Zoo because of the unique history, spectacular collection of animals, and convenient location near apartments in Berlin. Finding the Berlin Zoo is as easy as taking the underground directly to Zoologischer Garten station.
