Preparing the way for the new year ahead, Los Patios Hotel is ready to kick off 2016 inviting those families and individuals looking to indulge in Nicaragua’s untouched tropical settings, the safety and stability that the country enjoys since two decades ago, and the many different tourism opportunities that the destination offers all year long including adventure tourism, surfing and eco-tourism.

From scenic lakes and volcanoes to fertile mountains, enticing palm-tree filled beaches and extensive rainforests, Nicaragua’s unspoiled beauty gives the tourist a unique paradisiacal feeling not easy to find anywhere else in Central America. Nicaragua is also famous for its rich culture and picturesque cities such as Granada, where Los Patios Hotel is based. Founded by Francisco Hernández de Cordoba in 1524, Granada is the oldest colonial city in Nicaragua, beautiful and colorful, reflecting a truly authentic style from the period, which, along with the kindness of its people, its natural treasures, and relaxed lifestyle, makes it a preferred spot for international and local visitors.

The Winthers built the house with Gomez-Guillamon, the Danish interior designer Malene Hasse, and the help of more than forty local workers. The Winther family lived there for almost four years and then Ingeborg felt that she had put so much soul in it that she would love guests to have the unique experience to stay and enjoy the homey five-room spot. They opened as Los Patios Hotel in 2011 and now Ingeborg runs the hotel supported by her attentive Nicaraguan staff, who make their best to make your stay personal and memorable.

“We fell in love with Granada, a colonial city surrounding the largest lake in Central America, tropical climate, beautiful churches, and with inside/outside living colorful houses where people sit outside in their rocking chairs and wave to you when you walk by. We felt welcome and inspired to try something different and change our busy Copenhagen lifestyle, therefore we purchased this property in December 2007 to build our family home.” said Ingeborg Winther, owner of Los Patios Hotel, who came to Nicaragua with her husband Erik and their children Mikkel and Oline all the way from Denmark. A successful entrepreneurial Danish couple, Erik Winther had founded a fiber cable company while Ingeborg was running her furniture company Add-on. They didn’t have plans for a relocation until a friend of Erik who was living in Nicaragua, invited them to visit the country.

Their friend Maria Gomez-Guillamon, a Spanish-Danish architect, came from Denmark to design the house in Granada, Nicaragua.

Ranking at No.3 on the Top 5 Hotels in Granada on TripAdvisor®, Los Patios Hotel’s design echoes historic Granada’s rich Spanish colonial architecture mixed with a streamlined sense of Scandinavian style. Hence the red tile roof and ceilings made of local cane, characteristic of Granada, the Spanish style patios along with the clean lines and graphic minimalism found in iconic Danish designs. Most of the floor tiles and furniture pieces were handmade locally in Granada, designed by Malene Hasse. Ingeborg handpicked the interior pieces from local artisans who also made handcrafts based on her drawings, adding a modern touch to traditional Nicaraguan accessories. Balinese and Indian furnishings complete the global design experience.

Los Patios Hotel offers an exquisite escape from the fast pace of urban living, an enthralling setting for families, couples or solo travelers searching to stay at a homelike place in another world. It honors its name with its unique five different patios, ideal for a quiet interlude outside. Choose your favorite one to relax and unwind in private while you taste our eclectic mix of classic and innovative cocktails, such as the local Macuá. Also, every morning they serve organic coffee and the freshest ingredients for breakfast, personally prepared by the local staff supervised by our Nicaraguan manager Xiomara Morales. In addition to typical Nicaraguan breakfast with gallo pinto, tortillas, eggs, cheese, sweet plantains, and cream; a Continental breakfast is served featuring homemade cinnamon rolls and bread made with recipes that Ingeborg brought from Denmark, with fresh tropical fruits and marmalades.
