LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart Scholarship Awarded to Rising-Star Youths in North Carolina

Kyla and Skyla Brown, Founders of Ky & Sky Decorative Homemade Scented Candles, received the LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart Scholarship during the 2016 Career Mastered Leadership in Action Awards on March 1 at the Charlotte City Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The two sisters also received the 2016 Career Mastered Rising-Star Award. Twelve year-old Kyla attends James Martin Middle School in Charlotte and nine year-old Kyla attends Nathaniel Alexander Elementary School in Charlotte. The sisters started the business in 2015 because of a love and passion for candles.

Kyla and Skyla says they have been highly encouraged for years to start their own business. Kyla says the business has taught her to know that if you can wish it and dream it, you can do it. Her younger sister, Skyla says the business has taught her to be confident, responsible and outgoing. The sisters had the opportunity to network with some of the most powerful business women in Charlotte during the Inaugural Women’s History Month Career Mastered Awards including Mayor Jennifer Roberts, Linda P. Hudson, Joan Higginbotham, Regina Wharton and many other iconic women.

The Scholarship is awarded to the most promising students who show great academic or entrepreneurial potential. The late LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart was an Author and Poet who graduated with honors and penned her class song.
