Gift will help fund next medical mission trip to Africa

Knock Foundation has been awarded a product donation from Henry Schein Cares, the global social responsibility program of Henry Schein, Inc., to further aid medical relief in Africa. Knock is a nonprofit organization that looks to expand opportunities for impoverished populations in Third World countries.

As a beneficiary of the program, Knock will receive a broad selection of health care products and supplies, valued between $5,000 and $25,000, throughout the course of a two-year program cycle. The donation will enable Knock to expand its ability to provide care to the various communities it serves in Africa.

"We are very grateful for this gift from Henry Schein Cares," says F. Bruce Cohen, Co-Founder of Knock Foundation and Chief Operating Officer of United Therapies, LLC. "Without generous donations like this, Knock wouldn't be able to bring hope and health to the underserved communities in Africa."

Since its founding in 2008, Knock has made multiple trips to various areas in Africa to provide the communities with running water, life skills knowledge, text books, food and animals, medical supplies and land for children's care facilities. Knock also funds 100 percent of the operating budget for the Matumaini Child Care Center in Tanzania that is home to 20 orphaned children where they are provided with health care, clean bedding, meals and school uniforms, supplies and fees.

Knock will be making a return trip to Kisumu, Kenya, Africa in April 2011. It will send about 14 people for two weeks, eight of whom are doctors that will be working in the local hospital and all others will build schools in the area. Henry Schein Cares is the largest distributor of health care products and services to office-based practitioners. It helps to increase access to health care for underserved communities through the donation of medical, dental and animal health supplies to community-based health professionals and their organizations.

About Knock Foundation

Knock Foundation was founded in 2008 and is a 501(c)(3) public charity registered in the United States. Knock is also registered as a non-governmental organization in Tanzania, where it has created a partnership with a children's home, initiating self-sustainable development projects, planning HIV/AIDS education seminars and working towards improving the standard of education. Although Knock's work thus far has been focused in East Africa, it is ultimately Knock's vision to support impoverished communities throughout the world.
