Trekking courses will herald new avenues in tourism for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, as much as it will bring more of cash. Initiation of state of the art trekking courses would become the focus of international tourists.

The face of state of Jammu and Kashmir is changing and it is this very change which has given impetus to the drawn back facet of tourism altogether. The state government's tourism is all set to bring a plan of action for instituting Trekking courses with the sole purpose of promoting adventure and tourism and developing high levels of trust amongst the inbound tourists as well as those within India. With the announcement of world class trekking courses in Kashmir, a new realm in tourism has finally opened, which would help in changing the face of tourism altogether. The state government is all set and serious to devise a concrete action plan for laying down customized trekking courses for the local Kashmiri adults.

The Jammu and Kashmir ski and mountaineering association in partnership with state tourism department has organized a specialized trek from Faqeer Gujri, a village, strategically situated around 9.3 kilometres from Srinagar to Asthanmarg in the city's peripheries at Zabarwan range. The principal objective is helping the youth in the valley to work as the professional guides and as the result help in the promotion of eco-tourism. The Jammu and Kashmir state government is making the headway in right direction to ensure better prospects in the field of Eco-Tourism.

"In the last one or two years, the tourism industry in the Kashmir valley is revitalizing and developing, breaking free from the clutches of terrorism. More emphasis was given to develop and revive pleasure tourism, however, quite little and negligible efforts were made to bring adventure tourism to the levels where it could earn benefit to the state as well as its youth. This could only happen since there were not sufficient manpower resources available. However, now under the state of the art trekking courses, local Kashmiri youth would receive world class training in the arena of trekking, skiing and rafting. The youth will get attracted towards trekking and they will get real-timeprospect to explore other avenues," as told by the Jammu and Kashmir state tourism development official.

Mudasir Ahmad, who is one of the participants at the start of trekking course, voiced, "It is a very upright initiative take by state of Jammu and Kashmir, as youth and small children are participating in the trekking course, and as the trekkers. This would bring complete and positive change in their lives. The trekking business will eventually help in the promotion of tourism industry in the state."

With national and international tourists showing interest in adventure tourism, the present step towards starting trekking courses would turn out to be boosting step altogether. Plans are also underway to initiate several other activities which directly associate with adventure tourism in state.
