International Women's Peace Group Advocates for Peace and Korean Unification at Press Conference in D.C.
WASHINGTON, June 3, 2018 (Newswire.com) - HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, and Restoration of Light), has made a presence in the D.C. area. Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL, a UN ECOSOC-affiliated organization, and delegates of the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) spoke at a press conference at the National Press Club on Saturday to discuss the peace work they have been doing while in D.C., as well as their success at the United Nations in New York. They discussed the importance of women’s role in peace work. More than 100 reporters, panelists, peace volunteers, and young adults were in attendance.
Hyun Sook Yoon, the director of IWPG HQ, discussed their work at the U.N. earlier this week, where they met with heads of state and ambassadors to discuss the establishment an international law for peace, the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), drafted by HWPL. “We are working to establish the DPCW,” she said. “In order for that to happen, we need to pass a resolution.”
Women are very important when it comes to education. I first must be educated on peace in order to teach others peace.

The press conference was an opportunity for all attendees to reflect on their own roles in building a nation of peace. Women in particular were captivated and touched by the questions and words from young adults in the audience.
”As a young adult and woman, I am so encouraged to see the work IWPG is doing,” said Kelly Burke, an attendee. “In order for world peace to become a reality, we must become one, as Chairman Lee had said.”
Ms. Hyun Sook Yoon continued to say that the “eyes of the world” are looking toward the Korean Peninsula, and that women have a major role in this work of unification. The media might portray the way the conflict looks in a negative manner - a world full of terror, war, and destruction. However, with words of hope, women in IWPG fight to change the world so that peace can blossom and children's lives will never be threatened by division and war.
A culture of peace starts now - peace takes flight with the strength of mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters. Women protect the peace for the youth so that world peace can finally become a tangible reality.
“Women are very important when it comes to education. I first must be educated on peace in order to teach others peace,” said Ms. Hyun Sook Yoon.
