Hyperlocal Site NearSay.com Selected As One Of The Eight Most Novel And Transformative New Media Companies by Disruptathon

NearSay was selected by Disruptathon as one of the most innovative media companies. Launched in late 2011, NearSay has over 125,000 readers and is the largest publisher of neighborhood news in New York City.

NearSay.com announced that it was selected as one of the eight most disruptive and innovative media companies by Disruptathon. A national search of more than 100 companies and a competitive down select process resulted in the selection of eight companies that will compete for the top distinction on June 16th at the USA Today headquarters in Washington DC.

"It's truly an honor to be considered by such impressive media companies that sponsor Disruptathon such as USA Today, Gannett, and O'Reilly. We have been executing on a new vision of the local news and marketing space, one that has not been filled by traditional media companies. NearSay is a marketplace that connects readers to businesses and businesses to readers, each with control of their experience. It's exciting to see NearSay evolve, grow and gain such traction in such a short period of time," said NearSay Co-Founder and CEO David Pachter, who was recently named one of the twenty entrepreneurs to watch by Worth Magazine.

Rapid Reader Adoption In NYC

With more than 125,000 monthly readers in Manhattan, NearSay has nearly 10 percent penetration of the local populace in the seven months since it's launch, making it one of the fastest growing hyperlocal sites. NearSay has given a voice to more than 300 contributors including local politicians, organizations, bloggers, critics and celebrities and is the largest neighborhood publisher in the eight neighborhood areas that it has launched in, including East Village and Lower East Side, West Village and Greenwich Village, SoHo and TriBeCa, Chelsea, Midtown and Hells Kitchen, Upper East Side and Upper West Side. NearSay plans to expand into Brooklyn this month.

New Marketing Offering For Local Businesses Getting Traction

NearSay recently launched its local business marketing platform, Broadcast, designed to help local businesses publish news, events and deals across their neighborhood ecosystem across social media, email, NearSay.com and partner sites. NearSay has over 50 local clients on the Broadcast platform since it's recent launch in Q2 2011.

"The breadth of the Internet poses a new challenge for most local businesses: connecting with loyal, valuable customers in meaningful ways without an IT staff to support multiple tools. The NearSay Broadcast platform has provided spectacular results with a single platform that's easy for them to use and gives them a new voice directly in local news and to their most valuable, local customers," said Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Trevor Sumner.
