Hollister Construction Services Completes Renovation On 72,000 Square-Foot Baking Facility In Newark, N.J.
Hollister gutted and entirely rebuilt the existing facility, which had been an old paper distribution center, demolishing warehouse partitions and equipment rooms and building all ancillary rooms to support the baking operations.
Online, April 9, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Hollister Construction Services (Hollister), a leading full-service construction manager specializing in corporate, educational, healthcare, industrial, retail, and residential construction, recently completed a comprehensive renovation for Damascus Bakeries' 72,000 square-foot state-of-the-art baking facility, located within a major distribution hub in Newark, N.J.'s Urban Enterprise Zone at 60 McClellan Street.
Hollister gutted and entirely rebuilt the existing facility, which had been an old paper distribution center, demolishing warehouse partitions and equipment rooms and building all ancillary rooms to support the baking operations. This included building a flour silo that is fed by tanker trucks, as well as a mixing and scaling room built out of insulated metal panel. All new utilities were added, to support expansion and future construction of a freezer, along with all new electric, gas and water distribution throughout the building. New offices were built, with an employee locker room, break room and meeting room.
"Newark is being revitalized with the support of family-owned businesses like Damascus Bakery and Hollister is very proud to be a part of this movement," said Kieran Flanagan, President. "As construction managers, we can provide these companies assistance with design value engineering skills that respond to their needs for timely and cost efficient construction. We have a great working relationship with the City of Newark and this was an example of what we can offer both our clients and the broader community."
Damascus Bakery, a family-run, third-generation commercial baking company, had been located in Brooklyn before choosing to move to Newark. Presently owned by brothers Ed and David Mafoud, the bakery began making pita breads in 1930 and now bakes pizza crusts and gourmet flatbreads. Its products are distributed nationwide and are used by such well-known businesses as Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks, Costco and Wawa.
