Business electricity supplier Haven Power has been chosen by Bedford Borough Council to supply renewable power in a deal that will see many council buildings, including schools, become drastically more sustainable.

As part of the Council's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, it had no hesitation in contracting with Haven Power, which offers all customers the option to take renewable power at no extra cost compared to power generated from traditional fuel.

All businesses - public and private sector - are having to re-assess energy strategies in-line with changing policy and carbon reduction targets, and Haven is finding that its option to provide customers with electricity generated from biomass is increasing in popularity.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, commented: "Opting for energy generated from biomass will significantly reduce our impact on the environment as well as providing reliable energy for years to come."

Peter Bennell, chief executive of Haven Power, said: "Quite a number of customers are facing increasing pressure to be more environmentally responsible. As part of Drax Power, we have the ability to supply our customers with biomass-generated energy, and this option means our customers also benefit from their supply being exempt from Climate Change Levy (CCL). It is a very simple but effective way for Bedford Borough Council to commit to being more sustainable and deliver carbon footprint savings without incurring extra costs."

As part of Drax, (the UK's largest single producer of renewable energy) which produces around eight percent of the UK's electricity needs, Haven Power can offer customers significant industry expertise and supply benefits, while still providing an individually tailored customer service.
