Last month we let you know about a groundbreaking new course being piloted in Montrose. The ABC of Successful Single Parenting is a program exploring how extended family (where the parents live in separate homes) can be positive, healthy and beneficial for the adults and children alike. It's run by Jennifer Broadley, an executive coach from London, and owner and founder of www.SuccessfulSingleParenting.com

The event was a condensed version of the fulI-day program being launched around the UK in 2010 and comments from attendees were all positive: "I wish I'd known this stuff early on in my single parenting" said one of the participants, "I now have a plan to follow to progress the parts of my life that I know I can improve. Happier me ... happier kids!".

The program covers topics like 'access' and how to aspire towards conscious co-parenting. It also offers strategies for communication and how to have clarity between a single mum and a non-resident dad; as well as how parents equip their children to succeed as part of an extended family; how to be supported by friends and family; how to plan ahead and get financially strong over time; even ... how to get out there and date again!

Jennifer Broadley, the program's founder says, " There are so many definitions of what healthy parenting and great family can be. My intention is to offer a new way of thinking about how a family can operate successfully whatever its shape. The choice to separate or 'un-marry' has been present in our society for many generations. With over 250,000 divorces in the UK each year, it's more important than ever to create a positive way to transition from a nuclear family to an extended one with less pain, judgement and conflict and more hope, understanding and respect."

The final free workshop will be held in Knox's U.F. Hall, Mill Street, Montrose. 10 - 12am (arrive 9.30am for coffee): Saturday 21 November. Anyone involved with Single Parenting or Extended Family is welcome. Please email, phone or text your name to join Jennifer on the day.
