Gulf Coast Events on End of Year and New Year Goals

Gulf Coast Events' president announced that her team of promotional specialists is in the process of setting goals for the firm as well as for themselves on an individual basis.

“As the year draws to a close and a new one is upon us, our focus is on setting goals,” said Alex H., the president of Gulf Coast Events. “This is the most important skill I learned from my mentor, Brandon. If you don’t know what you are moving toward, it is difficult to create a plan of action – like the cat in Alice in Wonderland who claims that if you don’t know where you’re going, you won’t know what path to take. Goals are the end results, the things to which we aspire, and there has to be a system in place to accomplish them. They keep us moving forward and prevent complacency.”

Alex also explained how she models goal setting for her team, stating, “The first step is to know what you want to accomplish, and by when you want to do so. Set big goals and work backward from there by creating a plan of action that includes short-term objectives along the way.”

According to Alex, setting goals is not completely about looking toward the future. It also involves reflection on past accomplishments and mistakes, and applying that information to strategic planning. “In just a few months, we have doubled the size of our market in terms of clients and events we manage on a weekly basis,” she said. “In fact, we recently introduced two new clients to our national distribution partners. Now, we are incorporating the lessons we learned in the past into our efforts for 2015. Our goal in the next year is to run up to a dozen events daily between our retailers, to test new clients, and to expand outside of Houston. I have no doubt that we can do it!”

In addition to the company goals, the team members at Gulf Coast Events are setting individual goals as well. Laura G. is the firm’s top campaign manager, and she is working relentlessly toward her next promotion. “We have high hopes to introduce her as the executive director to a new territory by March,” Alex indicated. “She sets ambitious goals and works hard to accomplish them and share her knowledge with the rest of the office. Laura brings a level of enthusiasm that could keep anyone motivated!”

The director of human resources, Logan, has set ambitious goals as well. “His drive to create success not just for himself but for our organization is exactly what we need to move to the next level,” Alex remarked. “Even though he is new to our team, we are excited for everything he has accomplished so far – and will accomplish in 2015!”

With such ambitious plans for expansion, Alex expects to grow her team in the near future. She will be seeking market managers, but is willing to invest the time and energy necessary to train anyone who shows potential through a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. “We have a very energetic and dynamic work environment,” she concluded. “Everyone has enormous professional goals and we love bringing healthy competition to the table, as well as working together to reach goals as an organization.
