Geeks Are Taking Over the World Through Coding Boot Camps
What are code schools? Developer "Boot Camps" are popping up all over the place and there are now hundreds in the United States. The Tech Academy is one of the top code schools on the planet and is helping people land careers in software development, which is one of the highest-paying industries to work in.
Portland, Oregon, August 26, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Do you hate your job? Are you underpaid?
There's an option you've never thought of. That is, unless you're a geek.
"I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think."
Steve Jobs, Apple
According to PayScale.com, computer programmers (also called "software developers" and "coders") make a lot of money. In fact, starting salaries for programmers in the United States average $57,739 with an average hourly rate of $20 per hour as of July 2015.
They create apps, websites, programs and all the video games we play. But for some reason, there is and will always be a shortage of good computer programmers in the United States in an article reported by TechCrunch.
To fix this issue, one of the solutions being offered up are Code Schools; AKA Coding Boot Camps.
These are 5-25 weeks of training programs wherein people learn how to write code. They started popping up in 2012 and now there are hundreds in America. Students learn how to create websites, phone apps, software and other useful skills at these programs.
An example of one of these code schools is: The Tech Academy (www.learncodinganywhere.com). They offer a 15 week "Software Developer Boot Camp" that can be take in person at their campus in Portland Oregon, or done online from anywhere in the world.
The Co-Founder of The Tech Academy, Jack Stanley, has this to say about it: "I find it surprising that there aren't more people entering this industry. Graduates of our program are making over $60,000 a year on average and that's in their first job. In just a few months, people are changing their lives. We've had people from all walks of life, some with prior experience but most with no experience at all."
"Students learn to write code and then work as developers. In addition to the pay, it's a great industry to work in because you create such awesome products. Software development is the perfect balance of art and scientific thinking."
Jack goes on to say, "We have worked hard at creating a program that anyone can get through. It was important to Erik (Co-Founder of The Tech Academy) and I to make it possible for the average person to learn computer programming and by all accounts, it appears we have."
Because these boot camps last only a couple to a few months, they are a better choice than college for some. They're cheaper than college as well.
This may be something to look into.
