Gardere Women's Council Hosts 'The Legacy of Watergate' at George W. Bush Institute in Dallas
Online, June 9, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP Women's Council recently hosted "The Legacy of Watergate: Ethics of Representing an Entity Under the Current Model Rules," a two-hour CLE program featuring former President Richard Nixon White House Counsel John W. Dean.
Held June 5 at the George W. Bush Institute at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, the program included "The Cancer on the Presidency," with Mr. Dean and Jim Robenalt, a partner with Thompson Hine LLP, examining cover-up crimes and activities, and analyzing them under the post-Watergate ethical rules and standards. Using Watergate as a case study and Mr. Dean as a fact witness, the duo explored the ethical duties of an attorney representing an organization when wrongdoing is uncovered.
"This program reminds lawyers everywhere of the professional bar's commitment to ethics following the disaster of Watergate," said Mr. Robenalt. He and Mr. Dean lauded Gardere's Women's Council for its role in presenting the program. "We could not have been more impressed with the Firm, its clients and others who attended," they said. "The leaders of Gardere and their professionals obviously share this passion for ethics and clearly have assembled a team that is striving for excellence in all aspects of the practice of law."
June 17 marks the 42nd anniversary of the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex, which eventually led to the Aug. 8, 1974, resignation of President Nixon. For more information on The Legacy of Watergate, please visit www.watergatecle.com.
