Game Shows: The New Way to Get Help With Student Loan Repayment?

Quiz Show

Student loan borrowers sometimes feel the need to get creative with ways to pay off debts. If a creative enough way is found, it might also make a good story. With how common it is to know someone who struggles with student loans as well as frequently hearing about it in the news, creative ways are being thought up all the time to also pitch in and help fight the battle of repayment. When the two forces come together - those who need help and those wanting to help - it may wind up with some crazy stuff like game shows being held to pay off student loans. American Financial Benefits Center (AFBC) is a document preparation service company that has helped thousands of borrowers apply for income-driven repayment plans because not everyone may have the opportunity to get on a game show with a shot at earning enough money to wipe out their student debt.

“A trivia-based game show, depending on what kinds of questions that will be featured, could give a chance for borrowers to show what they learned, or could completely blindside the contestants by always changing the question themes to be based off of things totally unrelated to any of their degrees. The concept sounds like it has some entertaining possibilities, to say the least,” said Sara Molina, manager at AFBC.

While there are some drawbacks to something like a game show being used to help pay off student loans, such as how not every contestant can win or how if a cash payout is made it will very likely be taxed, it sounds like the producers have taken a few steps to help at least a couple of problems. The first contestant out will still receive a sizable reward, as will contestants who last longer. There will likely still be issues to work out before the show starts accepting applications, but for some borrowers, it may be just the needed miracle for troublesome student loans. For those who may not want to rely on a game show to handle student loan repayment, AFBC has been there for clients to aid with enrolling into repayment programs and continues to guide them on their path towards loan forgiveness. “A game show for paying off student loans could be fun for all involved, but being able to get on the show and winning big would be close to gambling to many. I guess it could really depend on what you’re aiming to get out of the experience. I just wish all of the contestants good luck,” said Molina.
