Fragrance Creators Association Appoints Homer Swei, PhD, as Chief Scientist to Bolster Science-Based Policies That Drive Market Innovation

The Fragrance Creators Association (FCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Homer Swei as Chief Scientist, commencing December 9, 2024.  In this role, Dr. Swei will build upon FCA’s longstanding commitment to promoting sound science through engaging in public policy and supporting best-in-class research. He is uniquely positioned to unite diverse stakeholders—from governments and public interest groups to industry leaders and scientists. His work will focus on advancing policies that foster responsible innovation that deliver meaningful benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.

Dr. Swei brings a distinguished career spanning leadership in global corporations and NGOs, with deep expertise in advancing science-based advocacy, regulatory strategies, and sustainability initiatives across the ingredient and consumer products industries. He is a recognized thought leader, he has authored numerous publications and received awards for advancing green chemistry and sustainability initiatives worldwide.

In his new role, Dr. Swei will oversee FCA’s scientific initiatives, leveraging the association’s network of over a thousand scientists and technical experts to develop proactive, solution-oriented regulatory strategies. He will also expand FCA’s engagement with stakeholders to ensure science-driven regulations that efficiently deliver sustainable and impactful outcomes.

Dr. Swei’s achievements include leading environmental sustainability initiatives, advancing product safety and transparency, and fostering collaborations across diverse stakeholder groups. He has spearheaded research and policies that have transformed market practices and supported consumer-driven demand for safer, more sustainable products.

Dr. Swei’s appointment reinforces FCA’s commitment to equipping its members with the tools to thrive in an increasingly complex regulatory and market environment. Under his leadership, FCA will continue to streamline compliance support, promote education, and drive innovation across the fragrance value chain.

Dr. Swei holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
