Fort Smith Dentist Provides Care to Underprivileged via Mission Trip to Jamaica

Ft Smith, AR, February 1, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Dr. Charles Liggett, of River Valley Smile Center, a comprehensive dental practice in Fort Smith, Ark., with a team of professionals, provided dental care to individuals in need. The team worked from January 9 through the 16th and stationed their project out of Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Dr. Liggett and his wife Heather, a dental hygienist, were accompanied by a group of dentists, dental hygienists, lab technicians and assistants. The team worked throughout the Farm Heights area near Montego Bay.

The Gross Domestic Product per capita in Jamaica was last recorded at about $5562 in 2011, as reported by the World Bank.

The team was able to extract more than 500 teeth, make more than 150 dentures and perform more than 300 cleanings. This tour was Dr. Liggett’s 16th service trip to Jamaica.

Dr. Liggett has been community-oriented throughout his professional career: conducting more than 10 dental mission trips, founding the Weekend Dental Clinic and Free Extraction Day (which provides those in need with free or affordable dental care), organizing discussions for the local dental community to better recognize and prevent child abuse/neglect and more.
