Flower Mound Plastic Surgery Offers Patients Facelift Surgery

Dr. Drew Sanderson says facelifts are the ideal procedure for patients concerned with aging

With age, gravity can begin to have an effect on one's appearance, especially on the face. For patients in their 40s, 50s, or 60s concerned about signs of aging in the face, a facelift may be the ideal procedure, according to Dr. Drew Sanderson of Flower Mound Plastic Surgery in Texas.

Dr. Sanderson says that facelift surgery can correct many visible signs of aging, including deep creases beneath the lower eyelids, displaced fat, loose skin under the chin or jaw line, and sagging in the mid-face area. There are several different varieties of a facelift, including the traditional facelift, mini facelift, and the short-scar facelift. All facelifts, however, are meant to rejuvenate and restore a more youthful appearance to one's face, according to Dr. Sanderson.

Dr. Sanderson says that facelifts are performed as an outpatient surgery, under general anesthesia, to ensure the patient will be comfortable during the procedure. In most cases, the surgery will take 4 to 6 hours to complete. Incisions made during the surgery will depend on exactly what type of facelift the patient chooses to undergo. Traditionally, during a facelift, incisions will be made at the temples, around the ears, and possibly within the area of the lower eyelids or under the upper lip.

According to Dr. Sanderson, facelift surgery can be combined with a necklift procedure. Neck lift surgery will correct fat accumulation, sagging jowls, and loose skin on the neck area. Dr. Sanderson does his best to conceal the incisions from a facelift surgery. Pain following the surgery will be fairly minimal, although some patients may experience temporary swelling.

Dr. Sanderson says that the best candidates for a facelift are patients who are physically healthy, and are non-smokers. He adds that patients must have realistic expectations about what the surgery can do for them, since a facelift cannot stop the aging process altogether. He says that patients should allow themselves 1 to 2 weeks to recover from the procedure, and should avoid doing any strenuous exercises for about 3 weeks following surgery.

Dr. Sanderson works hard to ensure that each of his patients receives personalized, exceptional treatment. In addition to being a plastic surgeon, Dr. Sanderson is also an Ear, Nose, and Throat surgeon, making him highly qualified to operate on the face.
