RE/MAX Belize Agent Will Mitchell Releases HD Drone Video of Actor Leonardo DiCaprio's Private Island Blackadore Caye

Since DiCaprio's announcement in the New York Times that he will be developing a $250 million eco-resort on the island, there has been significant interest in the area, especially the neighboring island of Ambergris Caye which is benefiting significantly from this development.

RE/MAX Belize Agent Will Mitchell, a real estate agent on the island of Ambergris Caye, has recently released drone video of actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s new private island Blackadore Caye, located just a few short miles off the coast of Ambergris Caye. An announcement in the New York Times reported that DiCaprio will be developing a $250 million dollar eco resort on this island. This development has brought significant interest to the area and in particular to Ambergris Caye.

The island of Blackadore Caye, which is more than 2 miles long, will be developed into one of the world’s first luxury and restorative resorts with more than 50 percent of its land mass dedicated to conservation areas in order to protect the local species. The project will entail a world-class luxury hotel resort focused on health, wellness and sustainability, off-the-grid-living homes, and a research station focused on climate change and habitat impacts, which will provide leading restoration programs. According to reports, the Belize government has responded extremely well to DiCaprio’s project including direct support from Prime Minister Dean Barrow, who has been quoted as saying, “Although there are many ‘green resorts’ around the world, Blackadore Caye will be ‘deep green.”

"Blackadore Caye was really the perfect spot for DiCaprio to develop his eco-resort, and we are excited by the attention the project has brought to the local area. Having first come to Belize at five years old, I've had the opportunity to watch the market grow from its infancy to where it is today, giving me many insights into exactly what is taking place within this market."

It is reported that DiCaprio purchased Blackadore Caye with his business partner, Jeff Gram who is the owner of Cayo Espanto Island Resort, one of the world’s most luxurious private island resort developments with room rates costing as much as $2,500 a night. This resort has hosted celebrity guests including Bill Gates, Tiger Woods, Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford.

Belize has 8,800 sq. miles of land and a population of roughly 340,000, giving it the lowest population density in Central America and one of the lowest in the western hemisphere. Belize is the only country in Central America with English as its official language. The country is also eco-friendly with a staggering 46 percent of its land and sea dedicated to a national park and marine reserve.

“Blackadore Caye was really the perfect spot for DiCaprio to develop his eco-resort, and we are excited by the attention the project has brought to the local area,” says Mitchell. “Having first come to Belize at five years old, I’ve had the opportunity to watch the market grow from its infancy to where it is today, giving me many insights into exactly what is taking place within this market.”
