Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of Atlantic beaches from Little River in the north to Georgetown to the south, has been a top East Coast vacation destination for decades. And Myrtle Beach is at the center of it all, a budget and family-friendly destination. It's so family-friendly, most hotels have children's programs and playgrounds. Of course, the top attraction are the sunny, sandy beaches and everything that goes long with that - water sports, sunbathing, beach strolling. But Myrtle Beach offers enough options to keep the whole family satisfied. Love golf? Try your luck on some of the area's 100-plus golf courses or 50 miniature golf courses. Love a thrill ride? Myrtle Beach has numerous amusement and water parks. Love marine life? Try the aquarium or deep sea fishing. Love to shop? The area has outlets galore and the largest mall in South Carolina. Love entertainment? Live theater abounds. There's something for everyone who spends a summer vacation in Myrtle Beach.

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
You don't have to be a history buff to appreciate standing on the deck of the USS Arizona Memorial above the site of the sunken battleship destroyed in the Pearl Harbor attack that ushered the U.S. into World War II. Though a solemn site, the memorial offers a view into not just the history of Hawaii, but world history. Pearl Harbor, named for the pearl oysters that once were harvested there, offers a variety of military memorials and museums, including the Pacific Aviation Museum, the USS Oklahoma Memorial, the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park.

San Diego, California
Start with the renowned San Diego Zoo, home to six giant pandas, the most in any U.S. facility. The zoo and its companion Wild Animal Park have 4,000 animals and 100 acres to explore. SeaWorld has its famous Shamu the killer whale and opportunities to get close to marine animals. The zoo is part of Balboa Park, which bills itself as the "nation's largest urban cultural park." It also features restaurants, free concerts, gardens, and 15 museums - including the kid-friendly Fleet Science Center, Natural History Museum, and the Children's Museum. There is also Legoland, with more than 50 rides, shows, and attractions. In San Diego, shop and eat at the city's historic Gaslamp Quarter and waterfront Embarcadero districts. Want to just relax and play in the sun? San Diego has 70 miles of beaches to enjoy, especially the lovely Coronado Beach.
