Eco-Friendly Marathon - Another Success Event On Seychelles Tourism Boards Calendar

Online, May 2, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The race which is held on the last sunday of February every year runs from Beau Vallon to Mount Simpson back to the Beau Vallon and on to Victoria via Glacis, Anse Etoile, English River, 5th June Avenue, Anse Etoile, Glacis and back to Beau Vallon to cross the finish line. This year also saw the introduction of the relay race to the proceedings.

The race first took place in 2008 and was started by Mr Dong-Chang Jeong the Seychelles Honorary Consul General for South Korea and the head of the Seychelles Tourist Office in Korea. The idea behind the event was to encourage good health and fitness, to unify Seychellois and to encourage visitors to the island. The event also celebrates the long standing relationship between the Seychelles and South Korea

The day of the marathon ends with a traditional South Korean Gala Dinner at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay to celebrate the event and to give out prizes to the winners. At the gala chairman of the Seychelles tourism board Mr Faure said of the event "such activity not only advocates the wisdom of adopting a healthy lifestyle which comes to us islanders perhaps more naturally than most, but it is also a chance to meet athletes from all over the world who share similar passions".

This years winners of the 42km run were local runner Simon Labiche and South African runner Monica Vorster, the relay event was won by the Scorpion team from the Seychelles People's Defence Forces whilst the women's relay was won by the Anse Royale Secondary School team.
