Dr. Dom Contreras's New Book, "From the Mound to the Pulpit and In-Between!" is the Probing Life Story of a Mexican Man Growing Up in a Bigoted Era in American History.

"From the Mound to the Pulpit and In-Between!" from Dom Contreras, Ph.D., is a memoir in which the author shares his experiences growing up as a Mexican American in the distinctly racist era of the '30s to '50s in Los Angeles, touching on his time as a professional pitcher (the mound), his thoughts on Christian faith as a minister (the pulpit), and his time in retail management (the in-between).

Dr. Dom Contreras, a Korean War vet with a doctorate in Christian psychology who lives with his wife of fifty years in Coarsegold, California, has completed his new book, “From the Mound to the Pulpit and In-Between!”:  a frank life story of a man of faith who goes from a childhood steeped in racism to a colorful career in professional sports and ministry.

Dr. Contreras shares, “I believe that God directed my mother to go to Angeles Temple that day in 1929. She went and received comfort, food, and clothing. I can imagine my mother with my older sister Angie held by the one hand and in the other arm a frail sickly baby Armida, not even able to walk yet, making their way to Angelus Temple. The Temple was within walking distance from their home, in fact, about a block away. Angeles Temple was to play a very important role in my life years later.

Does this picture look familiar? The only thing that has changed is that the state has replaced the church. We see this scenario being played out each day in some clinic or some human resource agency throughout the United States. Women walking with their strollers with three or four little ones dragging behind, holding Mom’s hand. The difference is, most of them are not starving but are getting the free handouts that Uncle Sam provides, adding to the growing dependent society.”

Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Dr. Dom Contreras’s new book is a striking recollection of blatant racism and a commentary on the complacency of the church—both of which tainted the author’s formative years in the City of Angels.

Passionate and politically wise, Dr. Contreras inspires the reader through his life’s work to look to Christ and follow Him out of society’s false constructs.
