Double Pride Assists With Marlee Matlin's Reality Show "My Deaf Family"

Double Pride was selected as a Technical Advisor for the "pilot" of the television reality show "My Deaf Family" produced by Marlee Matlin's Solo One Productions.

The short pilot has just recently made its way to You Tube (totaling over 75,000 the first week, and running over 10,000 views a day) and record views are predicted over the upcoming month. It has been written up in numerous publications including the LA Times, Entertainment News and Google News. See the sample "pilot" video here: http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/03/31/marlee-matlin-my-deaf-family/

The show is currently in the preliminary filming stages with three Executive Producers-Oscar award winning deaf actress Marlee Matlin, her business partner Jack Jason, and Donald Bull, a well known reality show director.

The show is about an American family that has deaf parents with both hearing (ages 15 and 2) and deaf children (ages 12 and 5), as well as both hearing and deaf extended family members. The show illustrates very clearly the challenges they face, both difficult and heartwarming, as they traverse between their two worlds-Deaf and Hearing.

Double Pride's contributions include: assistance in casting the Firl Family from the Bay Area, serving as liaison between the production team and the family, offering subject matter expertise regarding the psychology of families with deaf and hearing members, as well as on set interpreting, script consulting, assistance on post production captioning and editing, and consulting on television network and Internet marketing strategies.

"My Deaf Family" will be showcased at the upcoming "Mother Father Deaf Day" Event at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont on April 24, 2010. This annual day to honor our deaf parents was established by CODA International, an organization of adult hearing Children of Deaf Adults. Double Pride's Sheila Jacobs will be moderating panels of deaf parents with adult Codas as well as with their Kids of Deaf Adults (Kodas). Check the Double Pride website for more information about this community event. http://www.doublepride.com

In an interview, Ms. Jacobs said, "Mainstream media is by far one of the best ways to get this important information about family life in the Deaf Community out to both deaf and hearing families across the nation. The mission of Double Pride is to transform potential cross cultural collisions into cross cultural connections by offering Double Pride programs at home, school, and work." This new television project is just the newest method that Double Pride is using to help make a major impact for bilingual and bicultural people and their families to make the "best of both worlds".

Double Pride has been building bridges between both Deaf and Hearing worlds for almost 10 years. They provide training, consulting, coaching, counseling, and educational services and programs for schools, both deaf residential and mainstream programs, colleges, universities, companies, organizations, as well as for diverse deaf families nationwide.
