Maisha Bahati, CEO of Crystal Nugs, the first black and women-owned licensed cannabis delivery service, is seeking $400K in funding to open their 13,000 sq. ft. storefront dispensary. Bahati is one of two black women to receive the opportunity to open a dispensary through the city of Sacramento's Cannabis Opportunity, Reinvestment and Equity (CORE) program.

The cannabis industry has historically been marked by systemic inequalities that have disproportionately impacted communities of color and low-income individuals. However, in recent years, many states have taken steps to address these disparities by enacting social equity programs that provide opportunities for individuals from these communities to participate in the regulated cannabis industry.

The $400K will go towards the completion of the project including necessary equipment and inventory.

Bahati is committed to bringing about diversity and inclusion within the cannabis industry by creating opportunities that will create jobs and change lives that will inspire healthier communities. The launch of their new dispensary is a crucial step towards achieving this goal and will provide a much-needed resource for the local community.

"We believe that access to safe, regulated cannabis is a right that should be available to everyone," said Bahati. "By opening our dispensary, we are not only creating a safe space for the community to purchase a variety of high-quality cannabis products, but also promoting education and community engagement to help break down the stigma surrounding cannabis use."

"We are committed to creating a retail environment that reflects our company mission and provides opportunities for individuals who have been historically excluded from the cannabis industry," said Bahati. "With the needed capital, we can make this vision a reality and help create a more just and equitable industry."
