Next time you are in Cape Town, rent a car from First Car Rental and take a drive through the scenic Chapman's Peak to Hout Bay and visit Bay Harbour - The Market, Hout Bay. Located in an old fish factory in the old authentic part of the harbour in Harbour Road, the market features more than 100 stalls and is a celebration of the vibrancy, spirit and diversity of creativity and culture that make South Africa such a unique country.

As soon as you enter the indoor market, you are greeted by Viola, Queen of the Bay - so aptly named by fans via Bay Harbour Market's Facebook page. Viola has a very important job to do at Bay Harbour Market - this being to raise funds for community-based project, HOUT BAY C.A.R.E.S, making her the most important piggy bank in Hout Bay. So please remember to feed her a note or 2 when you visit.

The market is part of the Hangberg Social Upliftment Project and provides opportunities for the local community to develop business skills for sustainable business so therefore the tenant and product mix focuses on a broad range of carefully-selected art, craft, fashion and interior design whilst also tantalising the tastebuds with a wide array of exquisite fresh and prepared foods.

The initial tented part is just to tease you as to what is waiting - turn left and you are transported to food heaven and are utterly spoilt for choice. It doesn't matter if you are there in time for breakfast, lunch or dinner this market has it all and is open from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon.

From Cape Mountain Charcuterie offering world-class slow food such as prosciutto, salami, bacon, pancetta, coppa, and other cured and fresh delicacies, to the bread corner where you have a large choice of the freshest bread this side of the bay from ciabatta to pumpkin seed, hot rolls and loaves of all sizes and much more; to the selection of olives, sauces, pickled onions, pestos, to the Cape Country Lamb selection all beautifully presented and as fresh as a daisy, amongst many more food stations that are just as enchanting.

You have to try soup by Zoop! Their Spicy Coconut Chicken broth is just divine but the Zucchini and Rocket soup is out of this world. They also make a great dairy-free vegetarian soup. Take a bucket or 3 of Zoop home with you. You will be loved for it.

Bon Appetite does a wonderful breakfast and divine omelettes, or maybe have a baguette with the freshest of fillings - the gruyere, avo and bacon and balsamic is a favourite.

There are also lots of seafood and chips options and great looking paella. The Kitchen Cowboys steak roll is a winner as it is piled full of beautiful slices of medium-rare matured sirloin making it heavenly.

Then have a cupcake or a mini cheesecake or even lemon meringue pie for afters as these are just too good to pass up. Finish it off with a rich coffee from ZA Cafe!

And if all this wasn't enough, for something a little different and upbeat, Bay Harbour Market also showcases new live music talent offering an relaxed atmosphere with blends of jazz and swing one night, and possibly acoustic, melodic rock the next on Bay Harbour Market's Brampton Sound Stage (sponsored by Brampton Wines), which is situated in the food court area.

Every weekend is a set of talented musicians playing on Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday early afternoons. On a final note, be warned, you will be back again and again as this is just the beginning of what is available at Bay Harbour - THE market in Hout Bay. Trading times: Fridays 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays & Sundays 9:30am to 4pm (All trading areas are weather-proofed)
