Author Katerina Karamanou's New Audiobook 'Beyond the Nation State' is an Eye-Opening Look at the Political and Cultural Landscape of Cyprus, Its History, and Its Future

Recent audiobook release "Beyond the Nation State: Transnational Nationalism and the Cypriot Crisis Of 1974" from Audiobook Network author Katerina Karamanou is an enlightening look at the divided nationalism of Cyprus and the potential future of the island country. By discussing the republic's history, Karamanou seeks to understand how the country came to its current state and its future.

Katerina Karamanou has completed her new audiobook "Beyond the Nation State: Transnational Nationalism and the Cypriot Crisis Of 1974": an insightful analysis of the political and cultural divides of Cyprus and how they occurred from forces both within and outside the island country.

"Since 1974, Cyprus has been a divided island, and Greece and Turkey have remained influential players in determining the fate of Cyprus," writes Karamanou. "The events leading to bloodshed in Cyprus present us with a host of important questions. Why has the 1974 Cypriot Crisis endured? Do the politics of small states such as Greece and Turkey have a greater effect on the fate of small republics like Cyprus than do their own domestic politics? Is Cyprus's domestic structure the exclusive determinant of its internal stability? Or do international relations and even interaction between the island and its neighbors need to be considered? Does nationalism play a role in states like Cyprus that are plagued by competing nationalities? Is Cyprus yet another example of the economically based relationships we have seen in Latin America?

"To answer these questions, I turn to the literature of international relations and comparative politics. The former addresses the foreign policy components of the Cypriot Crisis of 1974, whereas the latter elucidates its domestic political dimensions. By combining these approaches and surpassing their narrow limits to make them engage each other, I have discovered a phenomenon I call transnational nationalism."

Published by Audiobook Network, author Katerina Karamanou's new audiobook will enlighten listeners on the current state of Cyprus' political and cultural divide and how such division came to be. By examining the case of Cyprus, Karamanou hopes to provide an example that other nations facing the same fate might look to in an attempt to bridge the divide created by transnational nationalism.
