The 2 500 hectare farm is a protected nature reserve with a variety of fauna and flora, making for wonderful game viewing during any activity you undertake. For a more intimate view of the wildlife, you can book an open vehicle game drive with a knowledgeable guide. Various quad bike trails are also available, with tours led by experienced guides who can take you close to the wildlife.

4x4 enthusiasts will relish taking on the reserve’s 4x4 challenging trails. The trails are rocky, muddy and incredibly scenic, and can be combined with a hike up to the farm’s beautiful waterfall. The hikes at Komati Gorge allow visitors to experience forests along the Komati River which flows through the property, as well as the sweeping hilly grasslands. There’s the easy 2.9 km Ibis Trail which takes you to ancient stone ruins, the waterfall and a cave, or an advanced 6 km trail boasting the same attractions, with a visit to the reserve’s bush camp thrown in.

Mountain bikers are also amply catered for with three trails ranging from easy to difficult, while horse riders of various skill levels can enjoy beautiful rides as well.

The Komati River is one of the outstanding features of the farm. You can canoe or tube down this beautiful waterway, or throw a line in to catch trout and indigenous yellowfish on fly. Several dams allow you to have a more restful crack at the trout.

Thrill-seekers will also find plenty to keep them busy at Komati Gorge. Rock climbers with their own equipment can choose from a variety of mountains and rock faces to climb. There are four marked routes and a 30 metre abseil route, but you have to sign an indemnity form before going.

The dedicated paintball range has to be one of the best in Mpumalanga. Komati Gorge Lodge offers a three hour basic package, as well as extra paintballs and gas bottles for those who are having too much fun to stop.

For a unique activity, try your hand at archery, using the lodge’s 45 or 65 pound compound bows to shoot at targets.

With all of these remarkable activities, Komati Gorge Lodge is truly and outdoor enthusiast’s Heaven on Earth.

Make sure that you book your activities in advance. For more information please phone 017 843 3920.  Accommodation can be booked over the phone or by filling out the form on the website.
