A DELIGHTFUL WAY TO BUILD THE BIG SOCIETY

The autumn political conference season is in full swing and with it comes the renewed hope and expectation of a nation that the economic ills and the malaise of a near-depression can be put behind us.

The reality is different though; spending cuts loom; the promise of austerity for years to come and a Dunkirk-esque spirit of 'we're in this together'. And this is the great promise of our new political fathers; The Big Society, a cynical political rebranding to 'empower' people to change their lives and help to influence their world.

Perfect timing perhaps that this week sees the launch of a new social enterprise that really takes the concept of the "Big Society" to the max by showing how to make it work from the level of the personal right through to the universal.

The Delight Makers, a non-profit organisation, has been created to unite people from across the world; diversity in unity achieved through something greater than good intentions and the idea that we should be more community based, and more global.

For many years we have been emphasising individuality and the importance of striving to build our own castles. We have done this so well that through this focus we have lost sight of our connection with others, and with nature.

Our society is becoming one where people increasingly objectify their own bodies and the world around them. The result is a decreased ability to connect with, or feel compassion for others; not a recipe for a "Big Society". Breakdown in families, disenfranchised youth, ASBOs, eating disorders, discarded seniors and cats in dustbins are all signs of a rapidly diminishing sense of connection, with the consequent decrease in level of care, respect or recognition for the sacredness of any aspect of life.

The truth is that we are already a Big Society, but we live under the illusion of separateness. The illusion has been getting stronger which accounts for the mess that we are in right now.

So how on Earth are we going to create a "Big Society" when our consciousness is living in the experience isolation and separateness? For the majority of us, we don't possess the knowledge and skills to actually change our lives at all. Perhaps it's time that we were all given access to some training in the Art of Living.

The Delight Makers are here with a "Big Message", and that is that we can only change our world by changing our experience and understanding and perception at the deepest level. Every culture across the world has its wisdom keepers, and they all share a common truth; that of achieving peace through the experience of oneness. From this point we relax, start to feel joy, and are able to make a delightful world.
The Delight Makers are creating joyful, participatory entertaining events and services that will enable us to experience for ourselves how it is that we are already connected at a deeper level. Once a person has had a direct experience of their connection to the whole of life a "Big Society" comes more naturally, because it comes with the direct realisation that everything we do is touching everything around us.

The Delight Makers have assembled knowledge from scientific, spiritual and cultural beliefs passed through centuries from diverse societies which can be applied to enable generations of today to un-tap their consciousness, free their mind and reach their true potential. Everything is presented in a neutral format. Their invitation is one of "try it for yourself and discover your own magic at your own pace".

The website www.delightmakers.com delivers beautiful projects and also a subscription-based internet service with content and services that will empower its members to take the steps in their own lives which will affect their immediate and wider environment.

Crucially, the Delight Makers will teach its members how to resolve problems for themselves by equipping and empowering them with the tools and knowledge to successfully resolve any of their life-problems.

The website will promote values of inner truth, freedom, kindness, simplicity, forgiveness, compassion, love and harmony. It will engage members of all ages with compelling, fun and exciting content. For instance, 'Teen Spirit' will capture the interest of any teenager, while Bedtime Stories will settle the younger generation to a relaxed and restful sleep.

The Delight Makers aim to organise a variety of events to bring spirituality to the real world, with a number of national stadium venues being considered for a 'delightful' programme of story-telling, art, comedy and music, encouraging audience participation.

Coming soon is a Treasure Hunt for Freedom and Delight a journey with treasures to be discovered on the inside and the outside, along with other community projects which foster and promote the values of happiness and well-being.

We all have the power to change our lives to help create a better world and perhaps this will create The Big Society. The Delight Makers can make this happen today. For more information please contact Samantha Edouardes for further details.
