74th Annual United Nations Day Celebration Hosted by UNA Austin
AUSTIN, Texas, October 24, 2019 (Newswire.com) - In keeping with tradition, the Austin chapter of the United Nations Association (UNA Austin) hosted the 74th annual United Nations Day celebration on Oct. 23 at The Sunset Room of the Oasis on Lake Travis in Austin.
United Nations Day is a celebration of both the UN and its charter. Scheduled annually on Oct. 24, worldwide celebrations mark the adoption of the UN charter, which took place on Oct. 24, 1945. The UNA Austin celebration for 2019 was based on the theme "Our Planet. Our Future." The event kicked off at 6:30 p.m. with registration, networking, and a musical performance by Classical Music of the World. Dinner was served at 7:05 p.m., during which time attendees heard a Welcome Note from UNA Austin President Aditi Joshi and a Keynote from Claire McCarthy, Consul General of Ireland in Austin.
The evening concluded with an awards ceremony and guests learning about the remarkable mission of One Good Turn from founder Dr. Ann Messer, recipient of the 2019 Inspire Award. "United Nations Day is one of the most important days on our calendar given our mission of supporting the UN in its global efforts to encourage tangible change," Joshi said.
