Dr. Sparrow and her husband Kenneth Roth JD, Director of Human Rights Watch, had also contributed at the 2014 Annual World Economic Forum Meeting, bringing focus to the critical need for more effective care delivery for children in Syria and surrounding refugee camps.
A first line medical responder to the crisis in Syria, Annie Sparrow MD, MPH, has returned repeatedly to the Syrian border to assist with hands-on training of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine to the eroding framework of clinicians available to care for the children and families of the war-ravaged region.
A Pediatrician specializing in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine, Dr. Sparrow held the appointment of Director of UNICEF’s malaria program in Somalia for the Global Fund against Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, prior to joining the faculty at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Holding a Masters in Public Health from Harvard (2004) Dr. Sparrow has completed field work in Haiti; health education and training of community leaders in northern Afghanistan; clinical work in Darfur; and surveillance in infectious disease for the American Red Cross following Hurricane Katrina.
Dr. Sparrow is globally recognized for her work with the children who survived and witnessed the Genocide in Darfur. The pivotal documentary, Smallest Witnesses: The Crisis in Darfur Through Children's Eyes, features the work and research of Pediatrician Dr. Annie Sparrow and Olivier Bercault, a groundbreaking documentary focused upon the impact the crisis in Darfur had on the children who witnesses and survived the Genocide in Darfur region.
