Youth Rec League Provides Much Needed Help for Under Priveleged

Palm Beach Heat Recreation Baseball is more than just your average youth baseball rec league. They are a group of volunteers who are providing no-cost, organized youth sports participation to families who cannot afford it.

Each spring, baseball fans yearn to hear two magic words: "Play Ball."  According to ABC News, the economic downturn is making it harder than ever for kids to play baseball.

In some towns, youth baseball participation is down more than 25%!  The drop's been fueled by a very familiar enemy these days.  A lack of money.

"There are just so many reasons that children need to be involved in youth sports."

George Domaceti, President and Founder

West Palm Beach sports provider, Palm Beach Heat Baseball League, is going the extra mile when it comes to providing organized baseball for those who cannot afford it.  They are providing no-cost and low-cost rec league participation regardless of a family's ability to pay fees.

"There are just so many reasons that children need to be involved in youth sports," said George Domaceti, president and founder of the "Palm Beach Heat Baseball League.  "Not only does it encourage a healthy lifestyle and promotes self-esteem, but it also keeps kids off the streets and hopefully, with a little help from a team environment, promotes good grades at school, while letting them just have fun!"

Based on each family's situation, the league will either provide no-cost participation, or, if they can afford a little more, have them pay for their uniform which usually runs around $25.

The league had searched for a facility that would work with them on a low cost solution in order to be able to maintain the no-cost league.  Enter the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation department who is providing Dyer Field in West Palm Beach to the organization. "The county Parks [department] has been great to work with, we would not have been able to do this without them," added Domaceti.

In addition, the volunteers have also done more than just providing their time.  They are donating all the equipment needed to get each team through the season, and have approached Dick's Sporting Goods who helps leagues throughout the county with their equipment needs.

The league is now conducting their second season registration.  If you would like your child to participate, visit www.palmbeachbaseball.org.
