Young Conservatives Call On Terminator To Kill Bag Tax Bill Not Jobs

California Young Americans for Freedom (CAL-YAF) has released a YouTube video in opposition of AB 1998, a bill that would ban plastic shopping bags and requires stores to sell customers the replacement paper bag at 5 cents per bag.

(SAN DIEGO, CA.) California Young Americans for Freedom (CAL-YAF) has released a YouTube video in opposition of AB 1998, a bill that would ban plastic shopping bags and requires stores to sell customers the replacement paper bag at 5 cents per bag.

Research shows that banning plastic bag do not reduce litter or improve the environment. Furthermore, a statewide ban on plastic bags will kill manufacturing jobs in a state where unemployment is at a jaw-dropping 12% and does nothing to address the Golden State's real challenges, namely the state's structural overspending problem which has reached $20 billion.

On August 21, 2010 the CAL-YAF state board met in San Diego CA and unanimously passed a resolution calling on the California State Senate and Governor Schwarzenegger to oppose AB 1998. AB 1998 has already passed the Assembly and will be up for a final vote in the California Senate. If this legislation passes the Senate, it will likely be signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger.

CAL-YAF State Chairman Jordan Marks said, "YAF recognizes that three year old children and now California state legislators should not be left alone to play with plastic bags." Marks continued, "Both scenarios lead to suffocation, the only difference is the legislators will be suffocating our job market." Marks concluded, "It is important that bag manufacturers properly label the plastic bags since both three year olds and legislatures can't comprehend the hazards of playing with plastic bags."

San Diego YAF Chairman Alec Weisman said, "The California State Legislators should stop nickel and dimming Californians with ridiculous bag taxes and get back to work creating jobs."
