Yellow Zebra Safaris is very excited about the opening of Kubatana Camp in July 2013 in Mozambique's fabulous Gorongosa National Park. This park is a wild and remote area of great natural beauty with a network of rivers, vast savannas, endless floodplains, enchanting woodlands, as well as the lush rainforest and waterfalls of Mount Gorongosa.

Fifty years ago Gorongosa National Park was one of the most exclusive safari destinations in Africa, attracting celebrities such as Hollywood stars, John Wayne and Ava Gardner. The park was known for the great diversity of its animals and was home to the largest population of lions to be found anywhere in Africa. Sadly however, its fortunes changed in the 1980s. The park was ruined by decades of civil war leading to widespread poaching. The animal populations were decimated and travellers ceased to visit the park.

Now, thanks to the Gorongosa Restoration Project, wildlife has been reintroduced to the park and travellers can return here once more. Rory Walker, co-founder of http://yellowzebrasafaris.com/]Yellow Zebra Safaris, says "This is very exciting! Gorongosa is a fabulous destination with great natural beauty yet completely unspoiled by tourism. The opening of Asilia Africa's Kubatana Camp, will enable travellers to stay in comfort and explore this remote park, enjoying game drives, walks through the bush, boating on Lake Urema and hikes in the rainforests of Mount Gorongosa."

For those who would like to combine the adventure of a safari at Gorongosa with some relaxation on a beach, there is a perfect follow-up - Mozambique's Quirimbas Archipelago. It, like Gorongosa, is wild and remote. Some of the islands are absolutely stunning!
