Houston single malt scotch fanciers will have an opportunity to sample and evaluate The Balvenie scotches at a tasting hosted by Reserve 101 at 6 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the bar, located at the corner of Dallas and Caroline in downtown Houston.

The Balvenie, founded in 1893, is described as the "world's most handcrafted single malt scotch whiskey" by the authoritative Malt Advisor magazine. The single malt whiskeys are made in northeastern Scotland's Speyside region where the Balvenie distillery grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional floor malting, and employs a team of coopers to tend all its casks and a coppersmith to maintain its stills.

"Balvenie is consistently recognized as one of the world's best scotches and is extremely popular among Scotch whiskey connoisseurs," says Reserve101 co-owner Mike Raymond whose bar stocks seven Balvenie highland malts ranging in age from 12 years to 21 years.

Among the scotches included in the tasting will be Balvenie 12-year Doublewood, 14-year Caribbean Cask and 17-year Peated Cask.

Reserve 101, Houston's premier whiskey bar, specializes in premium whiskeys, offering over 130 varieties, plus Martinis and other cocktails, wine and beer. The bar makes its own unique infusions, blending whiskey and other liquors with such exotic ingredients as pecans and cinnamon, apples, peaches, peppers and other flavors selected by Raymond and co-owner Steve Long.

More information about the tasting is available on the bar's web site at www.Reserve101.com. Upcoming Tuesday Tastings include four Meritage wines from around the world on Jan. 18, and Glenmorangie scotches on Jan. 25.
