„No light, no live: A portrait of Vincent Van Gogh" at the Univesity Settlement, from April 28th to April 30th. Live painting, live audience: The Viennese painter Eva Flatscher creates in a brand new way.

Live painting, live audience: The Viennese painter Eva Flatscher creates in a brand new way and is the first of a new kind: a performing painter. The origins can be traced back to the action painters of the sixties and the Vienna Actionism. „I paint digitally, but follow the artisitc rules set out by the historic Dutch masters of the 17th century of still-life", says Eva Flatscher. „The old master considered a painting perfect, when at any stage of the process, the painting could be considered a ready painting and would stand for its own."
Painting right before an live audience this special technique is a prerequisite. „I can not tell the audience: Please do not look, I am not ready yet." Her painting are readable and ready at any moment of the process. With „No light, no live: A portrait of Vincent Van Gogh", she tells the story of a struggling artist with creativity and destiny. The play is produced and coreographed by Marla Ann Hirokawa, and danced by members of the Covenant Brooklyn Dance Company. Music is composed by Alan Ferber.
The world premiere of „No light, no life. A portrait of Van Gogh" can be seen at the University Settlement in New York City from April 28th through April 30th.
Eva Flatscher combines innovation and tradition, replaces canvas with the graphic tablet and the brush with the graphic stylus, instead of paint she uses light and reaches a new frontier.
Eva Flatschers art is a "work in progress." Always seeking new realms, she
draws from a high level of flexibility and willingness to experiment.
During a performance, paintings are created live in improvised, spontaneous and intuitive cooperation with musicians, dancers.
The audience experiences the dynamic development of a narrative. Her painting is gestural abstraction, three- dimensional, moving, expansive. It exists in the present moment of time and continues to live on in those who take it all in.
