VOXXI, the premier site for the acculturated Latino providing relevant news, insightful analysis and thought-provoking blogs.

VOXXI, the premier site for the acculturated Latino providing relevant news, insightful analysis and thought-provoking blogs, continues its growth with the launch of the politics section, the company announced today. Carlos Sanchez, a 30-year veteran of the newspaper industry who has worked for such publications as the Washington Post, has been named the national political Editor.

Sanchez' appointment will enhance VOXXI's coverage of politics, immigration, public policy, presidential debates, the primaries, and the fight for the presidency.

The 12 million Hispanics that are projected to vote in the November Presidential Election are expected to play key roles in such crucial battleground states. Hispanics will likely decide whether states like Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and New Mexico go to the republican candidate or to the current democratic incumbent. This is why Time magazine declares that, this year, Latinos will decide the next president. In recognizing the critical stakes of this year's election, VOXXI has launched a strategic election coverage plan that will benefit from a national network of writers and bloggers focused on issues of importance to Hispanics.

Beyond the issues of jobs and the economy, education and health care, Hispanics have demonstrated a visceral concern regarding the public policy debate over immigration and the implications for the federal DREAM Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for certain people.

"A key factor in the empowerment of Hispanics is the ability to give voice to this community," Sanchez said. "I believe in VOXXI's mission and I'm excited about the opportunity to chronicle this critical moment in our country's history."

Sanchez has worked in nine newsrooms across the country, including nearly eight years at the Washington Post, where he helped cover the crack cocaine epidemic of the late 1980s; the Reagan-Gorbachev summit in Washington; and the Los Angeles riots.

He participated in the coverage of the inaugurations of presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. And he helped oversee the coverage of then-Gov. George W. Bush and his subsequent march to the White House. Twice he served as a jurist for the Pulitzer Prize, the nation's most prestigious journalism award.

"I'm delighted to have a veteran journalist like Carlos on our team," said Emilio C. Sanchez, President and CEO, VOXXI. "Carlos has a proven track record and an impressive background in traditional media - making him the ideal fit for driving our 2012 elections coverage. We are ready to show a wide and comprehensive coverage from all kinds of angles."

Most recently, Sanchez spent a decade running his own newsroom as executive editor of the Waco Tribune-Herald, where he became enamored with the power of digital journalism as well as social media - two elements of the news business that he has taught students as an adjunct professor of journalism at Baylor University for the past five years.
