Ultrapure Water Pharma Concludes Successful Conference
Online, June 3, 2010 (Newswire.com) - EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.-ULTRAPURE WATER Pharma, conducted here May 20-21, finished on a successful note. The two-day meeting, which was attended by endusers, consultants, and suppliers of water treatment products, included a roundtable and technical papers that included lively discussion of different points of view on pharmaceutical water treatment issues.
Technical paper subjects covered a range of topics of interest to those active in pharmaceutical water treatment. Anthony Bevilacqua, Ph.D., of Mettler-Toledo Thornton Inc., presented a paper on USP and global pharmacopeial requirements for bulk, sterile, and packaged pharmaceutical water. Another paper by Fred Tepper of Argonide Corp. examined the efficacy of a depth filter using a nano aluminia fibers to remove bacteria and viruses from water.
Marc Mittleman, Ph.D., of Exponent, examined biofilm and bioburden generation in compendial water systems. Patrick Banes and Daryl Roll, both of Astro Pak Corp, covered rouge in pharmaceutical water systems. Other topics addressed by speakers included microbiological control, distillation, water system expansion, the use of polymeric inhibitors in water systems, ozone sanitization, water pretreatment, and chlorine in RO systems.
Additionally, the meeting featured a roundtable chaired by co-moderators Dr. Bevilacqua and Andrew Collentro of Water Consulting Specialists that reviewed the state of pharmaceutical water treatment and included questions and discussion from audience members.
